Last week we have introduced to you the latest Swarovski innovations. If you missed that post, check out new Swarovski crystal colors, shapes and application solution HERE. Today we want to show you Swarovski inspirations for this collection and how it reflects trends from the fashion industry and society in general.
The name of the collection – “Be Yourself” – has already a very strong connotation. Be who you are. But this is definitely easier said than done. In order to be “ourselves”, we first have to go out of our comfort zone and take the journey of self-discovery and self-expression. Or to put it in the words of Roy T. Benett: ” To shine your brightest light is to be who you truly are”. In order to show you Swarovski’s interpretation of this exciting journey we are revealing their four main sources of inspiration.
1. TRADITION: Check Yourself
In this era of globalization and constant change nothing is for sure and forever. It seems that the fear of future is now more present than ever. That is why we are all longing for stability and something familiar to hold on to. Within the fashion context, check and tweed patterns have always been a classic. This season they’re being reinvented and reissued in various designs.
As we are relearning to appreciate classic items we still want them to be unique and personalized. Swarovski is, therefore, bringing new light to geometric lines by breaking them with soft radiance of fancy stones and sew-on stones. Vintage feel of crystal and pearl designs is combined with traditional checks and woolen tweed fabrics for a “modern heritage” look. Thanks to new Cabochon Flat backs Hotfix, that lustrous pearly effect is now achievable not only in jewelry but also in fashion design.
2. NATURE: Find yourself
Another aspect of self-discovery is going back to our roots. This implies distancing ourselves from mass-produced goods and trying to save our environment and our planet. Natural landscapes, recycling, layering of fabrics and “no-waste” philosophy therefore seem like a predominant characteristic of this season’s fashion trends. As a result, we see folkloric motifs as well as floral, botanical and insect motifs everywhere.
The new Crystal LacquerPRO DeLite effect is Swarovski’s homage to natural landscapes. Five new beautiful colors are celebrating the beauty and intensity of naturally occurring shades in our environment. They also reflect our current need to slow down the pace of life and find more sustainable ways of living.
3. EXAGGERATION: Excess Yourself
In order to “be ourselves” we often have to be brave and bold. In fashion context this behavior is expressed through an extreme exaggeration of shapes and forms. Although oversized elements have already been present in fashion industry for past few seasons, designers are now taking this trend to a whole new level. A minimalist mindset now meets the “more is more” attitude. This attention seeking and exaggeration reflect actually our silent call for protective measures.
Swarovski’s answer to this “the bolder the better” fashion philosophy is bringing out new sizes of flat back crystals, round stones, fancy stones, sew-on stones and other crystal elements in the most popular colors. We can also emphasize our personal message or belief by incorporating oversized crystal scripts into the design.
4. THEATER: Dress Yourself
And finally, the last inspiration for Swarovski “Be Yourself” FW 2019-20 Collection are glamorous stories and theater style. Dramatic crystal embellishment are being applied to luxurious velvets and brocades and clusters of pearls highlight the over-the-top extravagance. The lines between the fashion, jewelry and accessories segments continue to blur and the “more is more” approach creates a theatrical overstatement. After all, “all the world’s a stage” (W. Shakespeare), it is no wonder then that these theatrical vibes are more and more prominent not only in fashion industry, but in our everyday lives as well.
On a Final Note
Fashion design and fashion trends have always been reflecting society and social circumstances of that particular age. In today’s society of mass production and mass consumption a demand for individualism and uniqueness is stronger than ever. Swarovski is satisfying this need for individualization by forseeing the trends that are yet to come and by staying ahead of the competition. And you can do that do. Anyone can. Be unique, be special, be yourself. Unlock amazing design possibilities that Swarovski crystal elements are offering us.
