When it comes to making a brilliant impression on the dance floor, there are endless possibilities. Your inspiration begins, of course, with your music and performance style. The dance springs from who you are. But in order to communicate that clearly and passionately, you need every element of your costume and accessories to accentuate your performance. According to storytellers, there are seven key themes that run through all great stories, ranging from romance to power. Taking this idea as inspiration, we present seven Swarovski crystal design inspirations for dance that will help create your unforgettable story.
Human history changed forever when we learned to harness fire. Ignite your story on the dance floor with a design featuring Swarovski Flame crystals. The Flame is a tear-shaped stone with a unique multi-layer cut so instead of a single burst of sparkle you get a dynamic flickering reflection, like the glow of a candle. For a classic look play with red, orange and gold stones. If you want to add a modern edge, reinterpret the shape of flames in different colors.

The most human element, water is part of our very being. It can be raging, soothing, gentle, or torrential, so let your imagination play. Let rivulets of dome flat back crystals cascade across your shoulders and down your arms, or create a dramatic spray of pear-shaped Swarovski stones to evoke the sparkle and movement of a fountain. Shades of blue, green and white are the most literal way to represent water. But you could create a striking effect with a deluge of purple, or a cascade of bronze.

Who can resist the allure of the bewitching northern lights? Capture the eerie shimmer of these otherworldly lights using Swarovski Aurore Boreale stones. These delicate crystals create a wash of color that is perfect for ethereal movements. Cool colors like pale greens, blues and yellows will subtly accent your moves to showcase a star performance.
Swarovski 3223 Sew-on Stone (Crystal AB, Golden Shadow and Luminous Green)
Swarovski stones come in a huge range of colors and shades, which allows you to create your very own interpretation of a rainbow. Unless you’re performing for kids, set aside the traditional red-orange-yellow-green-blue-violet and opt for grown-up variations on the theme. You can select a single color, such as blue or red, and create a “rainbow” of shades. Or update the theme with varying shades of the primary colors. You can opt for a single dramatic effect, left to right or top to bottom, or use the rainbow motif to highlight arms or legs.
Swarovski 2078 Flat Back (Crystal Paradise Shine, Crystal AB and Light Rose AB)
Have you ever stopped to think about why people love Monet’s water lily paintings so much? They hardly even look like flowers, yet they instantly evoke beauty, grace and elegance. Let this Impressionist master be your inspiration for a floral look that combines a field of round flat back crystals with eye-catching ‘flowers’ made from Swarovski stones in different sizes and cuts. Don’t worry about being literal. The key is to have an organic-looking harmony.
One of the most striking ways to use color is ombre: which means shading a single hue from dark to light. This works best when the gradations are so subtle they are almost indistinguishable, and Swarovski crystals come in a wide array of colors that allows for just that. You can graduate a color from top to bottom, so it is darkest at your neckline and lightest at the ends to highlight your hand gestures and footwork. You can also play with variations, such as starting with the darkest color on your left shoulder and shading it diagonally. Bursts of ombre that start from a dark circle and lighten emphasize outward movement. Circles that start light and get dark draw the eye to the center of your body.

Give the judges something to “decode” with a binary-inspired crystal design. Binary patterns are on/off or light/dark. You can use the binary principle of alternating equal-sized things, either crystals or blank space, to create fantastic, futuristic patterns on your costume. The key is to be absolutely precise when applying the stones. Flat back Hot Fix crystals are perfect because they allow you to place them at exact intervals.
